It all started in the spare room!

We’re feeling nostalgic at iMove this week and whilst sitting in our modern two roomed commercial office building we recall where it all began….

Alex and I always dreamt of being our own bosses (although, with Alex being my wife, I do know that she is really the main boss!) and started our own company in 2013 to provide a good future for ourselves and our children. Having worked in estate agency for 15 years and with the ever-present internet in our lives, I was fully aware that there was no need to have an old fashioned high street office. If you can provide a very good service together with excellent marketing and flexible appointment times 7 days a week you can start a business from anywhere. And so, we did! Our then redundant spare bedroom became iMove HQ! We cleared out everything bedroom related and set up a smart modern office space, courtesy of Ikea…… This of course meant that we worked harder than most of our competitors who lock up their shops at 5:00pm and headed ‘home’! From our spare room office, we developed a great business with a great reputation and quickly became a serious presence in North Fylde.

As we grew we inevitably needed staff.

It was purely by chance that I was invited to value the house of Mrs B Ellis in Bispham. I turned up to the appointment and was greeted by Mrs Ellis and her then very young child and two cats! We hit it off immediately and the conversation quickly turned from what we could do to sell her house to me offering her a job! It turned out that Mrs Ellis, or Brit as I now call her, had worked in the industry locally for years and would soon be nearing the end of her maternity leave and returning to work. It’s worth noting here that she chose to sell her house with iMove and not the company she had been working for despite the fact she would receive a discount to sell with them – but that’s another story for another day…. When she came to the end of her maternity leave, she came to work for us. And guess where her swanky office was – our spare room!

The three of us worked extremely well together and really knuckled down to further expand the company. It was incredible and so exciting to be out-performing so many of our competitors who had been around donkey’s years! I can’t write this without mentioning my dad who successfully showed countless viewers around properties, secured many sales and drove new Vendors and Landlords to iMove as they were so impressed by him and his enthusiasm for our small family company.

Then we expanded further.

As we expanded further and with the arrival of our little girl and company mascot Martha, we decided that the time was right to move into a proper commercial office space. We found the perfect place, pretty much equidistant between the many areas that we cover and moved in in January of 2016. We then took another office in the same block at the end of 2016 to provide a meeting room and space for our customers to come in and chat and sign documents etc.

Brit is now our Sales Manager and we have a large team of excellent staff working with her to sell, let and manage properties throughout Blackpool, Poulton-le-Fylde, Thornton-Cleveleys and Fleetwood.

We feel very proud to be where we are today in less than 4 years and look forward the growing the company further and continuing to provide our well renowned level of service. However, if we’re honest, we’re glad it’s no longer in our spare room!
